Bishop

Bishop
A Bishop

The Bishop has a movement similar to the Rook, but instead of horizontal and vertical movement, its diagonal like a Pawn’s capture movement. The Bishop can move how ever many squares it wants in any diagonal direction depending on what color square the Bishop is on and if the path is obstructed by a friendly or opposing piece.

Below, the images that are shown represent the movement the Bishop can execute. The solid arrows show the direction of movement the Bishop can go. Note how the Bishop moves, and on what color square.

bishop movement 4
A bishop moved forward diagonal to the left 3 spaces, capturing a Black Pawn

The Bishop was only allowed to move diagonal on the color square it was on. In this situation, there was a White Bishop on a white square, which means it’s allowed to move diagonally along white squares only. Opposing pieces that are on black squares can’t be harmed by a White Bishop that is on a white square path.
