Illegal Move

An Illegal move is when a move is made that goes against the rules of chess or how pieces move.

An Example of an Illegal Move is shown below:

Bishop Movement 1
All pieces starting out
Illegal Move 2
A Black Bishop moving over a Black Pawn on first move

There are 2 thing’s that makes what happened Illegal in chess.

  1. White always moves first.
  2. A Bishop can’t move over other pieces. Only a Knight can do that.

Below is another example of an Illegal Move:

illegal move 2
Black’s turn, Black Rook is planning to be moved to put the White King in Check
illegal move 3
The Black Rook moves and attempts to put White King in Check

What black did was an Illegal Move because making that move would put black in Checkmate, therefore the Rook would have to move back, and black would have to do a different move.
