The Knight has a very unique way of moving across the board, using an “L” shape form of movement. The Knights is the only piece that can move over pieces that obstruct it’s path.
The images below represent the movement of a Knight from starting position. The solid arrows represent where the Knight will move and the dotted lines show where the Knight could potentially move. The most important part about the Knight movement is recognizing the L shape movement, usually consisting of 2 squares forward and 1 square the left or right, 1 square forward and 2 squares to the left or right, 1 square to the left or right and 2 squares forward; always following the L shape pattern.

The Knight can only capture pieces that are at the end of the L shape movement, as shown in the image above when the Black Pawn is at the end of the L shape path of the Knight. If there is a opponents piece within the Knights path, but not at the end of the L shape, that piece can’t be captured by the Knight.
